Prerequisites for Development
Exercise 18: Creating a Package
Exercise Duration: 10 Minutes
Exercise Objectives
After completing this exercise, you will be able to:
- Identify packages
- Create a package and save it to a transportable change request
Business Example
In order to manage the development project and to ensure that all objects belonging to the project follow the same migration path, a package for the project must be
created. This is normally the responsibility of the TMS administrator.
Task:
Create a package.
1. Create a package zpackage_## using the Object Navigator. ## represents your group number.
2. What is the standard transport layer for the development system?
3. In addition to the standard transport layer, what other valid transport layers exist in your system?
Solution 18: Creating a Package
Task:
Create a package.
1. Create a package zpackage_## using the Object Navigator. ## represents your group number.
a) Call transaction SE80. In the initial screen of the Object Navigator, choose Repository Browser and choose the Option package in the drop-down list.
b) Assign the name zpackage_## to your package, where ## is your group number. Because your package does not exist, the system asks you if you want to create it after you choose Enter. Confirm this with Yes.
c) Assign the necessary attributes to the package: enter a meaningful short description, software component HOME, and the standard transport layer ZDEV. Choose Save to create your package.
d) The system prompts you to assign your newly created Repository object to a workbench request. Select Own Requests, choose the change request that you created for your project, and confirm the selection.
e) Check the assignment to your request in the Transport Organizer. Display all change requests that you created but are not yet released by choosing Display. There is a task described as Development/Correction under your change request.
2. What is the standard transport layer for the development system?
a) From the Object Navigator (transaction SE80), choose Repository Browser to display the package you created in the previous exercise task . Double-click the Object Name. The Package Builder screen that displays the definition of the package displays. On the Properties tab in the Transport Attributes section, the Transport Layer field contains the standard transport layer assigned to the package.
3. In addition to the standard transport layer, what other valid transport layers exist in your system?
a) To display other valid transport layers in your system, use the possible entries arrow beside the transport layer on the same screen.
Lesson Summary
You should now be able to:

- Define the naming conventions for SAP Repository objects
